October is one of my favorite months of the year. The weather here in Austin finally starts to cool off a little – it’s still warm enough to go outside for prolonged periods of time, but not too cold where you need to bundle up. You know, the perfect shorts and long sleeve shirt type of weather. The buzz of the upcoming holiday season begins, that special day I celebrate with my favorite man, our anniversary, and the best part… Halloween! October is AWESOME!
Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. There are so many reasons why I love Halloween. My affinity for scary movies, the costumes, the candy, the decorations! Halloween is the only day I can think of where civilized people let go of their inhibitions and let their crazy take over. You can dress like a villain, superhero, favorite celebrity, cartoon character, or monster – you can be anything you want to be!
This year I was especially excited about Halloween because it’s the first year that Lucas is old enough to understand the concept. So… I went ALL OUT!
Lucas and I decorated the house.
We took a trip out to Barton Hill Farms in Bastrop, TX. The farm was so much fun and had many activities for kids of all ages. There was a huge jumping pillow, pirate ship, pioneer fort, trike track, Bessy’s cow train, grain train, super slides, pumpkin patch, corn maze and rat racers. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
We went to our first Trunk-or-Treat event, which was held in our neighborhood.
We carved our Halloween pumpkin. Nice hair.
And last but not least… trick-or-treating! Lucas went as a race car driver and Walt and I as his pit crew. Mimi was kind enough to stay at the house and hand out candy as the Cat in the Hat and Aunt La La joined us as “Mommie Dearest.” Lucas eventually got the whole trick-or-treating concept and once it clicked, he only picked out candy in red wrappers. Hmm… maybe the kid has a thing about red?
Like I said… October is AWESOME!
